Interior Design Trends Impact Home Sales: Here’s What You Should Keep in Mind

Last month, we discussed why curb appeal is essential for making a positive first impression for potential home buyers. That’s not the whole story though! Interior design choices matter too.
With that thought in mind, let’s discuss how interior design trends impact home sales.
To start, it’s important to recognize that design trends are more than just aesthetics. They also influence buyer decisions and property values — which means they hold the power to attract more buyers, sell a property faster, and command higher prices. Ultimately, interior design styles transform how homeowners view and value a property, making it equally important for buyers, sellers, and realtors to understand the trends and their impact.
For 2025, design trends focus on luxurious textures, warmer tones, and customization — all factors that make a home feel more inviting. When it comes to paint colors, opt for saturated hues of navy blue, olive green, brown, and maroon. Another common trend is color drenching, or painting an entire room (walls, ceiling, and trim) the same color. For a more subtle look, consider the Revive approach: using taupe trim against white walls.
Patterns and textures are two additional emerging trends. Consider incorporating a cement-tile accent wall (as pictured above), grasscloth or colorful wallpaper, or even patterned curtains. For an easier option, you can update the finishes on your fireplace or add wallpaper to just one wall.
Now, let’s dig a little deeper into popular interior design trends for the most important rooms of your house: the kitchen and the bathrooms.
Kitchen
For many years, an all-white kitchen with subway tile backsplash was the go-to choice for homeowners. While some people still lean towards this classic design aesthetic, many buyers are looking for deeper wood tones (like walnut), paired with warmer whites and taupes in the cabinets and countertops.Â
Colorful kitchens are making a comeback too! Instead of a sterile, simple design, think bold cabinetry, accent walls, and a mix of countertops and backsplashes. Custom touches are equally important, whether it’s vintage drawer pulls, colored appliances, or hand-painted tiles. Of course, extra storage space is always a plus and can come in the form of a walk-in pantry, floor-to-ceiling cabinets, a butler’s pantry, or a back kitchen.Â
Bathrooms
Buyers are looking for bathrooms with natural stone, textured tiles, and warm wood accents to create a spa-like self-care sanctuary. When possible, it’s great to include both a shower and a bathtub. Look for smaller, more delicate lighting options too, like pendant fixtures or sculptural sconces.
It’s equally important to focus on your powder room. Since it’s a small space, go bold with your design choices! Opt for dramatic wallpaper or unique tile patterns to create a special moment in your interior design.
Remember: In today’s real estate market, move-in ready homes that incorporate current interior design trends are most appealing to motivated buyers.
